The festival will take place on September 26 in New York’s Central Park, and attendees can gain entry by taking actions such as petitioning countries to support international development budgets. This year’s priorities include mobilizing $100 million to provide access to education, nutritious food, and healthcare for 2 million children, as well as improving food security for 1.5 million smallholder farmers.
Global Citizen co-founder Hugh Evans expressed optimism about the event, stating that he hopes to leverage the gathering to shore up outstanding commitments from world leaders. Evans also called on France to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, Gavi, Education Cannot Wait, or any of their other education partners.
The United States is not on the list of countries being targeted for support, with Evans citing the country’s significant reduction in foreign aid as a reason. However, Evans remains hopeful that the pendulum will shift in the future, with more leaders willing to understand the nuances of power and take action to make a positive impact.
