Georgetown Hires Spokeswoman Amidst Lawsuit

Georgetown has hired former Horry County spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov as a part-time public relations contractor. Moskov will be advising city leadership on broadening public outreach and engagement, with a focus on social media content development.

Background on Moskov’s Departure from Horry County

Moskov served as spokeswoman for Horry County government and the Horry County Police Department until November 2025. She was one of five county employees who resigned following an internal investigation into inappropriate sexual relationships. Moskov has since filed a lawsuit against Horry County, alleging unlawful retaliation, forced resignations, sexual harassment, assault, defamation, invasion of privacy, and gross negligence.

Georgetown Mayor Jay Doyle confirmed that he did not know the circumstances of Moskov’s departure from Horry County before she was hired. Doyle defended the hire, calling Moskov an expert in communications and public information with roughly a decade in local government.

Concerns Over Vetting Process

The hiring of Moskov has raised concerns over the vetting process, with some questioning whether the city properly reviewed her background before making the hire. Moskov’s professional biography describes her as having more than a decade in communications, a broadcast journalism background, a master’s in communications and criminal justice, and a bachelor’s in English from Texas A&M–Central Texas.
