Genoa Central school in Arkansas recently honored Judy Purifoy, a dedicated employee who has been driving a bus for the school for 50 years. Purifoy began her career in 1975 and has been a constant presence in the lives of many students and their families.

A Legacy of Care and Dedication

Over the years, Purifoy has seen many changes in the buses she has driven, from standard transmissions to automatics, and from simple open windows to buses with heating and air conditioning. However, one thing that has remained constant is her care and dedication to her students. She has been more than just a bus driver; she has been a trusted friend and confidante to many students, listening to their stories, celebrating their successes, and offering support during difficult times.

As a testament to her dedication, many of the children riding her bus today are third-generation riders from the same families. This speaks to the trust and consistency that Purifoy has built over the years. When asked about her advice to new drivers, Purifoy emphasized the importance of being prepared for the unexpected, being patient, loving, kind, and fair to every student.

To honor her incredible years of service, Genoa Central, along with the help of local law enforcement and other community members, gave Purifoy a special sendoff. She was escorted by law enforcement vehicles and drove through a fire truck salute, recognizing her dedication and the countless lives she has touched throughout her career.
