Gen Z parents boost organic food purchases, favor Dave’s Killer Bread

National Organic Month has highlighted a growing shift among younger families. A recent survey commissioned by Dave’s Killer Bread reveals that Gen Z parents are leading the charge on organic grocery choices, with 70% saying that having children makes them more conscious of food ingredients.

Key findings from the survey

Overall, 77% of consumers recognize the health benefits of organic foods, and nearly seven in ten Gen Z shoppers consider organic labeling important. Awareness is highest among Gen Z, with 44% describing themselves as “very aware” of organic advantages, compared with 35% of millennials, 25% of Gen X, and 15% of baby boomers.

Among parents, the trend is even stronger. Seventy percent of Gen Z parents reported that parenthood heightened their focus on ingredient labels, and more than half identified with the “crunchy parent” lifestyle that prioritizes wholesome, minimally processed foods.

Organic products gaining traction

Dave’s Killer Bread attributes its continued popularity to a lineup of USDA‑Organic breads and bagels that avoid artificial ingredients, preservatives, and high‑fructose corn syrup. Highlights include:

  • Pumpkin Spice Madness Bagels – a limited‑edition, protein‑rich bagel (10 g protein, 13 g whole grains, 4 g fiber) available nationwide through November.
  • 21 Whole Grains and Seeds – the brand’s flagship loaf, praised for its hearty texture and versatile flavor.
  • Good Seed – a sweeter, seed‑laden loaf that appeals to shoppers seeking more flavor than traditional wheat bread.
  • Powerseed – a low‑sugar option sweetened with organic fruit juices, offering just 1 g of sugar per slice while delivering fiber and protein.
  • Plain Awesome Mini Bagels – USDA‑Organic mini bagels with 12 g protein and 17 g whole grains per serving, ideal for quick, nutritious breakfasts.
  • Epic Everything Mini Bagels – mini bagels packed with flax, chia, quinoa, poppy seeds, garlic and onion for a flavorful, portion‑controlled snack.

These products cater to families looking for convenient, nutrient‑dense options that align with a growing desire for transparency in food sourcing.

Why the organic push matters

The survey indicates that 54% of shoppers now spend more time reading ingredient labels than they did five years ago, and 69% of Gen Z consumers say purchasing organic food is important. This heightened scrutiny reflects broader concerns about artificial additives and the long‑term health of children.

“As the OG of organic bread, DKB is committed to providing nutritious USDA Organic bread made with no artificial ingredients, no artificial preservatives and no high fructose corn syrup,” said Dan Letchinger, senior vice president for Dave’s Killer Bread.

Where to find the products

Dave’s Killer Bread products are sold nationwide at participating grocery retailers. Shoppers can use the brand’s online product locator to identify nearby stores.
