Montgomery, Ala. – The GE Aerospace Foundation is committing $1 million to strengthen aerospace workforce development across Alabama through its flagship Lifting Futures program. The funding will be used to raise career awareness, prepare entry‑level workers, improve program completion rates and enhance coordination among regional training providers.
Program goals and local impact
GE Aerospace’s Lifting Futures initiative targets the training of 10,000 workers in multiple Alabama communities by 2030. The first‑year grants are projected to benefit more than 400 individuals in the Montgomery‑Auburn corridor, helping them acquire the skills needed for high‑tech aerospace and defense manufacturing jobs.
“Alabama’s role in aerospace and defense manufacturing makes having a skilled workforce critical to our country. Lifting Futures will help more people get the training they need to build a career in this industry,” said Christian Meisner, Chief Human Resources Officer at GE Aerospace and Chair of the GE Aerospace Foundation.
Community input shapes the effort
Earlier this summer, community meetings were held along the I‑85 manufacturing corridor with educators, civic leaders and industry representatives. Participants highlighted three key challenges: limited public awareness of aerospace career pathways, lower training‑completion rates, and a need for stronger coordination among schools, workforce agencies and employers.
In response, the foundation’s grant will fund several concrete actions. Public middle‑school libraries in Montgomery and surrounding counties will receive subscriptions to the “Let’s Go Aerospace” magazine, a resource designed to inspire students and inform them about industry opportunities. Additional investments will support local training providers, apprenticeship programs and outreach events that connect students and job‑seekers with employers.
GE Aerospace’s broader commitment to Alabama
Since becoming an independent company in 2024, GE Aerospace and its foundation have supported more than 20 workforce programs, helping nearly 10,000 individuals gain skills for high‑paying jobs. In 2024, the foundation contributed $100,000 to Calhoun Community College in Huntsville to expand technical training.
The new $1 million injection builds on that track record, reinforcing Alabama’s reputation as a hub for aerospace and defense manufacturing. By expanding training capacity and raising awareness, the program aims to ensure that local families have access to stable, well‑paying careers—an outcome that aligns with traditional family values and the nation’s economic strength.
Looking ahead
GE Aerospace expects the Lifting Futures program to continue receiving support throughout its lifespan, with additional grants slated for future years. The foundation’s focus on regional coordination means that schools, workforce agencies and industry partners will work together to track progress, adjust curricula and ensure that training outcomes match employer needs.
Local leaders have welcomed the investment, noting that a skilled aerospace workforce not only supports existing manufacturers but also attracts new companies to the state, creating further job opportunities for Montgomery residents and their families.
