Heavy rainfall in western New Mexico led to major flooding in the city of Gallup on Thursday evening. The Gallup Police Department posted on social media, warning of unsafe roadways and debris buildup.
Flooding and Safety Concerns
Arroyos in the area can be particularly dangerous during monsoon season, with water rushing up to 30 miles per hour. If someone is seen in the water, firefighters advise against attempting a rescue and instead recommend calling 911 immediately.
