Furniture tip-overs are a hidden danger in many homes, sending nearly 18,000 people to the emergency room each year, with children aged 5 and under accounting for most fatalities, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The rollout of the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth (STURDY) Act in 2023 has helped by requiring mandatory safety standards for all dressers sold in the U.S.
Recent Recalls
On July 23, 2026, the CPSC issued two separate recalls for about 10,040 Romorgniz 12-Drawer Fabric Dressers and for about 16,809 EnHomee 9-Drawer Fabric Dressers. Both furnishings violated the STURDY Act and therefore pose tip-over and entrapment hazards that can lead to the risk of serious injuries or death to children.
To protect against tip-overs, it is essential to anchor all top-heavy furniture, including dressers, bookcases, and mirrors, to the wall with anti-tip straps or brackets. Additionally, installing dresser drawer stops can prevent small children from pulling the drawer out all the way, and storing heavier items in the lowest drawers can help maintain a low center of gravity.
