Fresno has received the final installment of state funding to improve its downtown and Chinatown neighborhoods. The $100 million allocation is part of a $250 million package promised by Governor Gavin Newsom.
Infrastructure Upgrades
The funds will be used to replace water and sewer systems, rebuild streets and sidewalks, and create parking infrastructure. Additionally, the money will support the planning stages of Linear Park and an intermodal transit center near the High-Speed Rail corridor.
Mayor Jerry Dyer expressed his gratitude to state legislators for their partnership in securing the funding. He stated that the investment will transform Downtown Fresno and Chinatown, creating a foundation for new residents, businesses, and jobs.
Two housing projects, The Park at South Stadium and the Helm Building Project, are expected to break ground this summer. The city is also working on two parking garages on Fulton Street, which will provide over 1,500 parking stalls.
