Franklin County, Ala. – Law‑enforcement officials announced the arrest of a local man on charges of electronic solicitation of a child after a coordinated online sting uncovered explicit communications with an individual the suspect thought was a 13‑year‑old girl.
Investigation began after online tip
On Oct. 10, deputies responded to a residence on Highway 183 after members of the volunteer group Predator Poachers Kentucky reported that they were chatting with the suspect on social media while posing as an underage female. The investigators said the exchanges started in September 2026.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as Lukas Gillilan, acknowledged the claimed age of the person he was speaking with but continued the conversation, which soon turned sexually explicit. Deputies collected screenshots, message transcripts, and audio‑video recordings, and seized a cellphone believed to contain further evidence.
Search warrants and arrest
On Oct. 13, investigators obtained and executed search warrants for additional electronic devices. The search revealed that Gillilan had allegedly made plans to meet the individual for sexual purposes. Based on the gathered evidence, he was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with electronic solicitation of a child.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges could be filed as the case proceeds through the legal system.
Community response
Local residents expressed relief that law‑enforcement acted swiftly to protect minors from online predators. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reiterated its commitment to working with community partners and national watchdog groups to combat the exploitation of children on the internet.
Authorities encourage anyone who encounters suspicious online activity to report it immediately to local law‑enforcement or to organizations such as Predator Poachers, which assist in identifying and apprehending predators.
