Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance Launches Conservation Program with $6M Funding

The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance has announced the launch of its Rooted & Resilient program, aimed at restoring natural watershed functions across several Wisconsin counties. This initiative is bolstered by a significant $6 million in funding, which includes a new $4.3 million investment from the Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) program, funded through the USDA. Additional financial support comes from the Great Lakes Commission and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative via the EPA.

Local Partnerships and Conservation Goals

The program is a collaborative effort involving Brown County, Calumet County, Fond du Lac County, Outagamie County, Waushara County, Winnebago County, the Oneida Nation, and Pheasants Forever. These partners are working together to address the challenges posed by wetland loss, stream channelization, and land development, which have diminished the natural ability of the Fox-Wolf Basin to manage water effectively.

Rooted & Resilient focuses on implementing practical conservation solutions on agricultural lands, particularly targeting marginal acres that are difficult or unprofitable to farm. The program supports practices that enhance water infiltration, reduce runoff and erosion, and keep nutrients on fields, thereby strengthening long-term agricultural resilience.

According to Katie Woodrow, Watershed Recovery Director, “Rooted & Resilient reflects our commitment to conservation solutions that work for both farmers and water quality. This funding allows us to expand projects that restore the landscape’s natural ability to manage water and build resilience across the Fox-Wolf Basin.”
