Tipton County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that four individuals have been arrested in connection with a series of copper wire thefts and related vandalism that plagued the county and nearby areas between Oct. 3 and Oct. 18.
Scope of the crimes
Deputies responded to multiple reports of copper wiring and communications lines being cut, removed, and stolen from facilities operated by Southwest Electric and Ritter Communications. The affected sites included Ritter Communications locations on Portersville Road, Wortham Road, and Atoka‑Idaville Road, a Southwest Electric substation on Glen Springs Road, and a property in the Drummonds area.
The thefts and resulting damage have been estimated at more than $100,000 in repair costs and have disrupted essential communications services for local residents and businesses.
Investigation and arrests
Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 1000 block of Fire Tower Road in Somerville. During the search, investigators recovered a large quantity of communications wire believed to have been taken during the spree.
The suspects arrested are:
- Colton Chase Cannon, 24, of Somerville – charged with theft of property valued between $10,000 and $60,000 and critical infrastructure vandalism.
- Bryson Riley Meadows, 32, of Braden – charged with the same offenses as Cannon.
- Jasmine Towles, 42, of Somerville – also charged with theft of property and critical infrastructure vandalism.
- Scotty Dewayne Anderson, 51, of Somerville – charged with possession of stolen property valued over $1,000.
Bond has been set at $150,000 for Cannon and $75,000 each for Meadows and Towles. Anderson’s bond remains pending. All four are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
Impact on the community
The theft of copper and communications wire not only incurs a hefty financial burden but also threatens the reliability of essential services that families and businesses depend on. Prompt action by Tipton County law enforcement demonstrates a commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and holding those who damage it accountable.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving utility equipment. The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incidents and will provide updates as the case progresses.
