Brooklynn Fox, a dance major from I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA in Fort Worth, has been accepted to the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. Fox will be the first Fort Worth ISD student to study dance at Juilliard.
Early Beginnings
Fox started dancing at the age of 3 and never looked back. She spent most of her life dancing, eventually giving up other activities to focus on dance. By the time she arrived at I.M. Terrell, she already possessed the talent needed to succeed in an elite performing arts environment, according to Christen Reyes, I.M. Terrell Academy’s director of dance.
Reyes described Fox as a dedicated student who was always hungry to improve. Fox spent roughly 60 hours a week dancing, taking multiple dance classes during the school day and driving to Grapevine for additional training in the evenings.
College Auditions
During her senior year, Fox faced her biggest challenge yet: college auditions. She competed against dancers from across the country and around the world, but her hard work and dedication paid off. Fox learned to become comfortable with uncertainty and criticism, using corrections as opportunities to improve.
After her summer break, Fox will move to New York to attend Juilliard, where she will continue studying ballet, modern dance, and other styles while preparing for a professional career. Her long-term goal is to perform with a renowned dance company, such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Reyes is eager to see what comes next for Fox, saying, “We’re now the audience waiting to see what her next step is, what her next dance is.”
