Fort Worth Independent School District announced Tuesday that severe rain damage has rendered portions of Meacham Middle School unsafe for occupancy. Superintendent Dr. Peter Licata told families that extensive inspections by district facilities staff, contracted engineers and safety teams confirmed the damage will require several weeks of weather‑related repairs.
Temporary relocation plan
To keep instruction uninterrupted, the district will move Meacham’s staff to the unoccupied Briscoe Elementary School building on Monday, Oct. 5. That day will be a teacher‑only day, with no classes for students. Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6, all Meacham students will attend classes in the Briscoe building.
District officials emphasized that the shift will not disrupt students’ academic progress. Learners will remain with their current teachers, follow the same bell schedule, and stay enrolled in the same courses, support services and extracurricular programs. The school’s leadership team—including the principal, assistant principals and counselors—will also relocate with the student body.
Safety and continuity
Licata stressed that safety is the district’s top priority. “Our facilities and safety teams have determined that the affected areas of Meacham Middle School are not suitable for use at this time,” he said. “By moving to Briscoe Elementary, we can ensure a safe learning environment while repairs are underway.”
The district plans to keep parents informed through regular updates on the repair timeline and any additional logistical changes. Transportation routes will be adjusted as needed, and families are encouraged to check the district’s website and communication channels for the latest information.
Community response
Parents expressed relief that the district acted quickly to protect students. “We appreciate the district’s swift response and the effort to keep our children’s education on track,” said one Meacham parent who asked to remain anonymous.
Local businesses near Briscoe Elementary have also offered support, providing snacks and water for students during the transition period.
Looking ahead
District officials anticipate that repairs will be completed within a few weeks, after which Meacham Middle School will resume normal operations in its original building. In the meantime, the district will continue to monitor weather conditions and adjust plans as necessary to safeguard students and staff.
