Fort Worth Firefighter Seeks Kidney Donor for Wife Amid Cancer Battle

In Fort Worth, Texas, firefighter Todd Brook is facing a dual battle. Diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, Todd is also on a mission to find a kidney donor for his wife, Jennifer Brook, who is battling kidney failure.

Todd’s Diagnosis and Jennifer’s Need

Todd Brook, a dedicated firefighter with the Fort Worth Fire Department for 30 years, received his cancer diagnosis in October. Despite his own health challenges, his primary concern remains his wife, Jennifer, whose kidneys are functioning at just 22%. She is on the transplant list at UT Southwestern, a process that Todd was initially part of as a potential donor before his diagnosis.

A Husband’s Last Wish

Despite his own health struggles, Todd’s focus is on finding a kidney donor for Jennifer. Craig Trojecek, a spokesman for the Fort Worth Fire Department, shared Todd’s determination to help his wife, stating, “His final wish was to make sure we tried to get Jen the kidney.” Even as Todd’s condition worsens, he remains committed to this cause.

Community Call to Action

Jennifer shared that Todd, though unresponsive at times, still communicates his wishes through small gestures. “He responds some. He’ll squeeze my hand or lift an eyebrow,” she said, emphasizing his continued fight and desire to help her. The Fort Worth community is encouraged to consider registering as living kidney donors to support the Brook family.
