Fred’s Texas Cafe in Fort Worth has partnered with Stone’s Throw Farm, a non-profit organization, to create a workday program for young adults with learning differences. The program aims to provide these individuals with valuable work experience and a sense of purpose.
A Labor of Love
Stone’s Throw Farm was started by Jackson Stone’s family to create work opportunities for young adults with learning differences. Jack Stone, Jackson’s father, said, ‘That’s why we do what we do, is for so many folks like our son, Jackson, when they age out of school, there’s, for most, there’s not a lot waiting, and not a lot of ways to contribute to the world around them.’ The work experience is worth more than a paycheck for Jackson, as it allows him to showcase his abilities and contribute to the community.
Cliff Whaley, Fred’s Director of Operations, expressed his pride in being part of a program that provides opportunities for individuals with learning differences. ‘We see what they can do. And it’s an opportunity for everybody to see what they can do,’ Whaley said. The partnership between Fred’s Texas Cafe and Stone’s Throw Farm is a testament to the power of community and the importance of creating inclusive work environments.
