Fort Wayne Relocates July 4th Fireworks to Protect Nesting Falcon

In a move that underscores the community’s commitment to wildlife conservation, Fort Wayne’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display will be relocated to protect a nesting falcon. This year, the fireworks will be launched from the top of the Harrison Square parking garage, adjacent to Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne. The display is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on July 4th.

Protecting Local Wildlife

The decision to change the launch site from the Indiana Michigan Power Center was made following a recommendation from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The department advised the relocation to avoid disturbing a falcon that has nested at the original site and is currently caring for an unhatched egg. This move highlights the city’s dedication to preserving local wildlife while still providing a festive celebration for its residents.

Community Involvement

Residents and visitors attending the Fort Wayne TinCaps baseball game that evening will have a prime view of the fireworks. The game is set to start at 6:05 p.m. at Parkview Field, and if it runs past 10 p.m., the fireworks will commence immediately after the game’s conclusion.

The event is supported by a partnership between the City of Fort Wayne, NAI Hanning & Bean, and the Fort Wayne TinCaps, who are serving as financial sponsors. City leaders expressed gratitude to these sponsors, emphasizing that their support ensures the continuation of one of Fort Wayne’s most cherished Independence Day traditions.

Celebrating Independence Day

The fireworks display is expected to draw thousands to downtown Fort Wayne as families and friends gather to celebrate the nation’s independence. This event not only provides entertainment but also strengthens community bonds, reflecting the values of family and community that are central to Fort Wayne’s identity.
