Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is inviting residents to enjoy a full slate of autumn activities that celebrate local heritage, promote healthy living and provide family‑friendly entertainment throughout October.
Harvest Festival Returns to Salomon Farm Park
On Friday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Salomon Farm Park (817 W. Dupont Road) will host the annual Harvest Festival. The two‑day event honors America’s farming legacy with hands‑on demonstrations, farm animals, horse‑drawn wagon rides and displays of antique farm equipment. Admission is free; parking is $5 per vehicle.
Live Music and Classic Film at Foellinger Theatre
Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m., Foellinger Theatre will present “Ghostbusters in Concert.” Attendees can watch the original 1984 movie while a live orchestra performs the iconic score. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and a meet‑and‑greet with the Fort Wayne Ghostbusters is scheduled. Tickets are buy‑one, get‑one free.
Free Outdoor Fitness Classes
Promenade Park will host a series of complimentary fitness classes for all ages. On Sunday, Oct. 11, participants can join a barre class at 9:15 a.m., a yoga session at 10:30 a.m., and Pilates at 11:45 a.m. A free Zumba class follows on Monday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m.
Halloween‑Themed Activities for Teens and Families
Starting Friday, Oct. 16, the Spirit of History Tour will take place at Promenade Park at 6 p.m. The free walking tour explores local ghost stories and historic sites; preregistration is required, and the event is recommended for ages 13 and older. After sunset, a free outdoor screening of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” will be shown.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, the Parks and Recreation Community Center will host a Halloween Haunt from 3 to 6 p.m., featuring games, crafts and a family‑friendly movie. Admission is free. The same evening, the Foellinger‑Freimann Botanical Conservatory will screen “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 7 p.m., accompanied by a Fright Night Market and costume contest. Admission is $10 per person.
Community Service and Seasonal Attractions
Volunteers are invited to join the Great Tree Canopy Comeback on Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, to plant trees and remove invasive species at multiple sites across Fort Wayne. The Botanical Conservatory’s Pumpkin Path display remains open through Oct. 25, and a series of community book sales will run at the Parks and Recreation Community Center from Oct. 13 to Oct. 15.
Additionally, Hurshtown Reservoir in Grabill will close for the season after Thursday, Oct. 15. The reservoir offers fishing, walking trails and boat rentals for residents.
