A former school bus driver in the Salmon School District filed a lawsuit against the district alleging gender discrimination, unlawful termination, and wage theft. Plaintiff Brooke Monroe claims the district fired her after she requested, but did not receive, leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Details of the Lawsuit

In the complaint filed in the Lemhi County District Court, Monroe also listed numerous allegations of wage theft and discrimination. She said the district wouldn’t pay her after she shuttled buses to Idaho Falls during the COVID-19 pandemic and that a supervisor denied her promotions because of her gender.

The district admitted to terminating Monroe’s employment but denied claims and said she didn’t qualify for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act. Monroe had filed a complaint with the Idaho Human Rights Commission, which found no probable cause to support her discrimination claim and informed her she could pursue a lawsuit.

Monroe requested a jury trial and wants to be awarded relief for what she said the district owes her, damages, and attorney fees.
