Former Alabama outfielder Andrew Pinckney has received his first promotion to the Major League following the injury of Nats everyday outfielder James Wood.
Pinckney’s Background
Pinckney hit .271 in Triple-A this season, adding 12 home runs and 18 steals for the Rochester Red Wings. The Georgia native amassed a .308 average along with 26 home runs, 101 RBI, and eight stolen bases while possessing a strong right arm across three seasons with the Crimson Tide.
Pinckney played a critical role in Alabama’s 2023 super regional run, batting .339 with 18 home runs, 58 RBI, and 40 walks in the Tide’s first super appearance since 2010. He earned a spot on the All-SEC second team in 2023 before eventually being selected in the fourth round by the Washington Nationals.
Pinckney will look to help the Nationals, who sit five and a half games back from the last wildcard spot, make a push into the playoffs for the first time since their World Series title run in 2019.
