Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 388,000 SUVs because a sticking switch mechanism could cause second-row seats to unlatch or move unexpectedly while driving.
Affected Vehicles
The recall affects 387,911 vehicles, including 2020 through 2026 Ford Explorers and 2020 through 2027 Lincoln Aviators.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the switch used for the easy-entry feature on the outer second-row seats may bind or stick in position. When this happens, the seats can unlatch, tip forward, or slide without warning.
Regulators warned that “a seat that moves unexpectedly may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.”
Repair and Notification
To fix the issue, Ford dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the plastic bezel surrounding the switch as necessary. The repair will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners.
The automaker plans to mail interim notification letters to affected owners beginning July 27, 2026, to explain the safety risks involved. A second letter will follow once replacement parts become available, which Ford expects by January 2027.
