Ford Motor Company is recalling 565,691 Ford Broncos built between 2020 and 2026 due to a defective engine compartment wiring harness. The harness defect could result in a short, heat, or spark that may cause a fire in the engine compartment.
Affected Vehicles
The recall affects Ford Broncos from model years 2021 to 2026. Ford said it was aware of 15 incidents involving these vehicles, with incident dates ranging from October 15, 2024, to June 20, 2026. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported due to the defect.
Signs of the defect include smoke coming from air vents and flames coming from the passenger’s side engine compartment. Additionally, a cluster warning message may appear. To remedy the defect, Ford will install sheathing over the wiring to prevent chafing and shorts.
Affected owners can bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the issue addressed free of charge. Ford’s number for the recall is 26S55. Notification letters will be sent to Bronco owners starting August 24, 2026. In the meantime, drivers can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website using their vehicle’s VIN to see if it’s affected.
