Fond du Lac police announced Wednesday that a 15‑year‑old local resident was arrested following an online tip that suggested the teen was planning a mass‑shooting. The tip, which originated from an individual outside the United States, was shared with the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center and then passed to the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
Investigation and seizure
On October 27, investigators executed a search warrant at the teen’s home. During the search they seized multiple firearms, a computer and a cell phone. Computer forensic specialists are now analyzing the devices to verify the statements attributed to the juvenile and to understand the full context of his online interactions.
Legal process and custody
After an additional interview on November 3, the juvenile was evaluated by Fond du Lac County Human Services Youth Justice social workers. He has been placed in the Fond du Lac County Secure Detention Facility while the case proceeds. Police have referred one count of Terrorist Threats and one count of Disorderly Conduct to the Youth Justice system for further consideration.
Police response
“The Fond du Lac Police Department takes all reports involving threats of violence seriously,” the department said in a statement. “Information, even when it originates outside our community or involves online activity, must be evaluated and acted upon. We are grateful to the individuals and partner agencies who recognize concerning behavior, share information, and help ensure that potential threats are brought to the attention of law enforcement.”
The department also urged community members to report any threats, concerning behavior, or information suggesting a potential risk of violence. Reporting concerns in good faith allows law enforcement and appropriate community partners to assess situations, intervene when necessary, and connect individuals with resources.
Because the investigation involves a juvenile, no additional identifying information will be released.
