Fond du Lac County officials say a high‑speed chase that spanned 34 miles across the county concluded early Friday after the suspect’s vehicle lost control and entered a ditch.
Sequence of events
At approximately 10:25 p.m. on Thursday, dispatch received multiple calls about a vehicle traveling the wrong way on U.S. Highway 151 near County Trunk Highway TC in the Town of Lamartine. A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper located the vehicle on Highway 151 near Interstate 41 and attempted to stop it. The driver turned south onto I‑41, initiating a pursuit that quickly accelerated to speeds of 110 mph.
The chase continued as the suspect turned onto Mowak Road and then Highland Road, maintaining speeds near 100 mph. County deputies later spotted the vehicle on County D, prompting another brief pursuit. During this segment the suspect’s headlights were off, adding to the danger for other motorists.
When the vehicle turned onto Woodford Drive, the driver lost control, veered off the road and came to rest in a ditch. Officers recovered the vehicle and secured the scene.
Law‑enforcement response
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Bend Police Department. Officials reported that they attempted to deploy spike strips several times, but the devices failed to stop the vehicle.
Three occupants were found inside the suspect’s vehicle. After questioning, they were released because investigators determined they had no involvement in the incident.
Suspect information
The driver has been identified as a 38‑year‑old man from Milwaukee. He is currently wanted on multiple felony warrants. After the crash, a large area was searched with K‑9 units, but the suspect remains at large.
Public‑safety implications
County officials emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office immediately. The incident underscores the challenges law‑enforcement faces when confronting dangerous, wrong‑way drivers on busy highways.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
