A 31-year-old woman, Brittany Clark, was killed by a 13-foot alligator in Seminole County, Florida, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Clark was hiking with her boyfriend and friends near the Barr Street Trailhead in the Little Big Econ State Forest when they stopped to swim with their dogs. An alligator grabbed Clark by the arm and began a ‘death roll,’ and despite her boyfriend’s attempts to intervene, she was bitten again and died on the way to the hospital.
Investigation Ongoing
The FWC collected DNA samples from two alligators that were removed from the area and matched them to Clark’s DNA. The agency is still investigating the incident and encourages anyone with concerns about alligators to call the Nuisance Alligator Hotline. An online fundraiser has been established to help transport Clark’s remains to California, where she is from.
