A single, lucky winner in Florida could be taking home the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot. According to Mega Millions, a single ticket in Florida matched all the numbers, claiming the 10th-largest jackpot in history and the biggest so far this year.
Winning Numbers
The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were: 34, 48, 49, 59, 70 and Mega Ball 12. The next drawing will be held on Friday at 11 p.m. ET, with an estimated jackpot of $50 million.
Winners have two options, both of which are subject to federal taxes and, depending on the state where the prize is claimed, state taxes may also apply. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336, while the odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 23.
Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday in 45 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, if you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, or Puerto Rico, you cannot purchase Mega Millions tickets.
To play, you must select five numbers from 1 to 70 and the Mega Ball, a gold ball numbered 1 through 25. To win the jackpot, you must match all six winning numbers. If you do not want to choose your own numbers, you can select the Easy Pick or Quick Pick option, which allows the machine to randomly choose the numbers for you.
