A heartwarming story of adoption and dedication has emerged from Florida, where a former elementary school teacher has adopted her 11-year-old former student. Jackie Coombe, a former teacher at Pathways Elementary School, first met Jaden in October 2023 while teaching his class. She was drawn to his lovely and happy face, and they grew close over the year.
Adoption Process
In the spring of 2024, Coombe learned that Jaden was in the foster care system, but he was not able to be adopted until May 2025. She completed the necessary paperwork, background checks, and spent increasing amounts of time with Jaden. Hour-long visits turned into days together, and days turned into weeks, culminating in the adoption.
During the adoption hearing, Judge Joan Anthony congratulated the new family, saying, ‘Ms. Jacqueline is going to adopt little Jaden, and we’re also going to change his name. He’ll be forever known as Jaden Andrew Coombe.’ Jaden shared his excitement with simple yet meaningful words: ‘I got a mom!’
