Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued an investigative subpoena to Dr. Anthony Fauci, opening a state-level probe into financial incentives, book deals, professional opportunities, and COVID-19 health guidance that affected Florida residents and businesses during the pandemic.

Investigation Details

The legal action commands the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to produce records from January 3, 2020, through the present. Fauci has until August 31, 2026, to comply with the order.

State officials say the probe is designed to look into whether personal financial benefits overlapped with public health decisions made during Fauci’s federal tenure. The subpoena stems in part from diary entries recently made public by U.S. Senator Rand Paul.

The subpoena demands documentation on several specific financial transactions and career developments that coincided with federal pandemic messaging. Key targets of the document request include details surrounding an estimated $900,000 prize from the Dan David Foundation awarded to Fauci in 2021, as well as a 2022 research grant awarded by NIAID to the University of Florida Scripps Biomedical Research program.

Support from Other States

Attorneys general from other states publicly backed Florida’s investigation following the subpoena announcement. West Virginia Attorney General John McCuskey and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill expressed support for the probe, calling for full public transparency regarding government responses and decision-making during the health crisis.
