A 39-year-old West Palm Beach man, Thomas Dominick Carlevale, was arrested after allegedly driving recklessly through Islamorada, hitting an off-duty deputy’s motorcycle, and threatening officers during his arrest early Saturday morning.
Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a gas station near Mile Marker 82 on U.S. 1 at approximately 12:48 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2026. According to law enforcement, Carlevale struck the motorcycle belonging to an off-duty deputy and fled the area.
Witnesses on the scene reported that Carlevale drove erratically along U.S. 1, causing multiple near-collisions with other motorists. When deputies located and apprehended Carlevale, he displayed aggressive behavior toward the arresting officers, which included making explicit threats to kill them.
Carlevale was formally charged with driving under the influence (DUI), assault on a law enforcement officer, and threatening to kill a law enforcement officer. No injuries were reported during the incident or the subsequent arrest. Carlevale was taken into custody and transported to the county jail.
