Florida Attorney General Announces Rescue of 163 Missing Children in Statewide Operation

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Thursday that a historic statewide child‑recovery effort, dubbed Operation Statewide Shield, rescued 163 missing children and resulted in three arrests. The children, ages two months to 17 years, were found across multiple regions of the state after a coordinated five‑day investigation.

Operation Overview

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) led the effort, working with a multidisciplinary task force that included local sheriff’s offices, federal partners, and the Special Counsel for Human Trafficking, Rita Peters. The task force executed sub‑operations in Pensacola, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers and Miami.

Recovery numbers by region were as follows: 46 children in the Tampa Bay area, 41 in Miami, 32 in Jacksonville, 21 in Orlando, 12 in Fort Myers, eight in Pensacola and three in Tallahassee.

Arrests and Charges

Law enforcement officials arrested three men during the operation. Michael Prescott, taken into custody by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 21, faces three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, one count of felony battery, one count of aggravated assault, and an existing warrant for interference with child custody.

Robert Ferral Allison was arrested on Aug. 20 by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and is charged with lewd and lascivious battery involving a victim aged 12 to 16. The third suspect, Jayden Allen Harwood, was detained on charges of interference in a child‑custody case and resisting officers without violence.

Uthmeier stressed that prosecutors will seek the maximum penalties permitted by law, including the death penalty where applicable for the most egregious child‑sex offenses.

Broader Reach

While the primary focus was Florida, the investigation extended beyond state lines. The task force rescued children in six other U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and 12 foreign countries, including Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominica, Finland, Ghana, Guatemala, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Spain and Taiwan. Recovered children were taken to specialized hubs that provide medical care, social‑service support and child‑welfare assistance.

Next Steps

Authorities have not yet identified all individuals who operated the trafficking networks, and the total number of expected criminal charges remains undisclosed. Uthmeier indicated that investigations are ongoing and that additional arrests are likely as the task force continues to follow leads.

The operation draws on strategies from previous federal initiatives such as Operations Dragon Eye and Home for the Holidays, reflecting a growing emphasis on coordinated, multi‑agency responses to child‑exploitation crimes.

Community Impact

Local families and community leaders have praised the swift action, noting the relief of seeing missing children returned safely. The operation underscores the importance of parental vigilance, robust law‑enforcement collaboration, and the protection of vulnerable youth under the Constitution’s guarantee of due process and safety.

For further information, the Attorney General’s office and the FDLE have made statements available to the public and will continue to update the community as the investigation progresses.
