Florida Atlantic University is searching for a new athletic director after Brian White announced his departure to take on the same role at Virginia Tech University. White, who served as FAU’s athletic director from March 2018 to 2026, expressed his gratitude to the university and its leadership for the opportunity to lead Virginia Tech Athletics.
White’s Tenure at FAU
During his time at FAU, White oversaw the university’s transition from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference. He also hired men’s basketball coach Dusty May, who led the team to a Conference USA men’s basketball tournament championship and an NCAA East Regional Championship. Additionally, White negotiated a lucrative stadium naming rights deal with Flagler Credit Union for FAU Stadium.
White will now lead an athletic department with more financial resources than FAU. Virginia Tech is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, one of the top four NCAA Division I conferences in the nation. The university has invested in its football program with the hire of James Franklin as its head football coach and has received an anonymous donation of $75 million, with the majority of the funds going to Virginia Tech University athletics.
