Flat Creek Bridge Construction in Jackson Extended Until June 16

Residents and commuters in Jackson, Wyoming, should prepare for continued construction on the Flat Creek Bridge along US89, as the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced an extension of the project until June 16. Originally slated for completion by June 10, the project requires additional work to ensure a smooth transition from the concrete bridge deck to the adjacent asphalt.

Additional Work Required

WYDOT Resident Engineer Bob Hammond explained that the bridge’s slight camber necessitates further adjustments to prevent a noticeable bump. The construction team, led by Reiman Corp, will cut grooves into the deck for improved traction on June 11, followed by the installation of pedestrian railings. To expedite the process, crews will mill the bridge transitions on June 14, with final paving scheduled for June 15.

Despite the delay, Hammond emphasized the importance of delivering a quality end product for the public. The bridge will remain open to two-lane traffic during construction, but drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays during peak hours. Caution is urged when navigating the construction site, and the use of the zipper merge at funnel points is recommended.

Impact on Local Traffic

The extension of the construction timeline highlights the challenges of infrastructure projects and their impact on local communities. As the bridge serves as a critical route for residents and visitors alike, the completion of the project will ultimately enhance safety and traffic flow in the area.
