Tragedy struck in Ohio over the weekend when five people lost their lives in a drowning incident in the Scioto River. The victims, identified as Marina Suyapa Regalado Miranda, 29, Jose Mario Pineda Diaz, 33, Carmen Idalia Ferrera Lara, 30, Miguel Angel Guerra Ruiz, 34, and Jonathan Gabriel Vargas, 18, were recovered after a search and rescue operation.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when family members and loved ones attempted to rescue one of their friends who was struggling in deep water. Multiple first responders, including Concord Township, Liberty Township, Berlin Township, Jerome Township, Scioto Township, Washington Township, Delaware County Emergency Medical Services, and the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency, assisted in the search and recovery efforts.
Honduran authorities confirmed that four of the five adults were citizens of Honduras. The incident remains under investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
Two young children who were on the scene were taken into care by Delaware County Job and Family Services.
