Residents of Toledo and surrounding areas were treated to a celestial spectacle on Monday night as a bright fireball meteor lit up the skies. The meteor was observed around 10:42 p.m., creating a brilliant flash as it traveled across northern Ohio before heading towards southern Michigan.
Widespread Sightings
Reports of the meteor came in from at least eight states and Ontario, with many witnesses noting the meteor’s fragmentation as it crossed the sky. The streak of light reportedly lasted up to seven seconds, leaving a lasting impression on those who saw it.
Despite its brightness, there were no reports of a sonic boom or any other sounds typically associated with such events. Officials are currently gathering more reports and analyzing data to better understand the meteor’s path and characteristics.
Recent Meteor Activity
This event follows two other fireball meteor sightings earlier this year. On March 17, a meteor fragmented over Medina County, and on March 23, another meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere over southern Wisconsin, visible across several states including southern Michigan and northwest Ohio.
Skywatchers and astronomy enthusiasts are encouraged to share any photos or videos of the recent meteor with local news outlets to aid in further analysis.
