In the pre‑dawn hours of Tuesday, a fire erupted at the Blue Lakes Apartments on Northwest 7th Street and Northwest 52nd Avenue in Miami’s Flagami area. Miami Fire Rescue crews arrived quickly, discovering flames engulfing a fourth‑floor unit.
Rapid response saves lives
More than 100 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The department’s firefighters were able to assist two elderly residents out of the burning apartment and transport them to a local hospital, where they were treated for minor smoke inhalation and released later in the day. Additional assistance was provided to residents who use wheelchairs or have limited mobility, as the building has only one elevator.
Full building evacuation
All 52 units in the complex were evacuated as a precaution. At least 15 people remain displaced while the fire is investigated and the building undergoes cleanup. Residents on the fourth floor will not be able to return until the unit is deemed safe.
Fire containment and damage
Firefighters worked for roughly 30 to 40 minutes before the blaze was fully extinguished. Video from the originating unit shows blackened walls and scattered debris. While the flames were confined to the single apartment, smoke and water damage spread throughout the building, affecting common areas and neighboring units.
Investigation underway
Officials have not yet released a cause for the fire. Miami Fire Rescue will continue to investigate the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Community impact
The incident underscores the importance of emergency preparedness, especially for seniors and individuals with mobility challenges. Local charities and community groups have already begun offering temporary shelter and assistance to those displaced.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and to follow any instructions from emergency personnel during similar events.
