Filmmaker Celebrates Immigrant Success

Natalia Ghilascu, an award-winning filmmaker and journalist, has expanded her impact beyond the screen with HorainAmerica.com and the Making Waves Show. Her documentary, Exile from Bessarabia, earned the Best Human Rights Film Award at the Chicago Women Film Fest, marking a historic milestone for Moldovan cinema.

A Mission to Amplify Stories

Ghilascu’s work is guided by a singular mission: amplifying stories that matter and giving voice to communities whose experiences deserve greater visibility. Her documentary explores the forced deportations, persecution, and suffering endured by Roma communities and other marginalized populations across Eastern Europe during World War II.

Through HorainAmerica.com, Ghilascu has built a digital media platform dedicated to covering the accomplishments, innovations, and cultural contributions of Romanian and Eastern European communities across America. The Making Waves Show features diplomats, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, educators, investors, and civic leaders, exploring stories of achievement, leadership, and perseverance.

Ghilascu’s unique ability to combine journalistic integrity with cinematic storytelling has earned her international recognition, including United Nations human rights journalist recognition and a growing media presence in the United States.
