Federal Aid Approved for Kentucky Counties Affected by Winter Storm

In a crucial development for Kentucky communities, President Donald Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have sanctioned funding to assist 18 counties severely impacted by the January 2026 winter storm. This storm, which tragically claimed the lives of 22 individuals, brought severe ice accumulation and frigid temperatures across the southeastern United States, with some areas in Kentucky experiencing up to nine inches of snow.

Counties Receiving Assistance

The approved public assistance will be directed towards the following counties: Allen, Barren, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Jackson, Laurel, Lee, McCreary, Menifee, Metcalfe, Monroe, Owsley, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne, and Whitley. This funding is expected to aid in recovery efforts and support the communities as they rebuild and restore essential services.

Governor Andy Beshear announced the approval, highlighting the importance of federal support in the wake of natural disasters. The Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund continues to play a vital role in assisting residents affected by such events, providing a lifeline for those in need.

Community and Faith-Based Support

Local communities and faith-based organizations have been pivotal in offering support and resources to those affected by the storm. These groups have worked tirelessly to ensure that families receive the necessary aid and comfort during these challenging times. The collaboration between government agencies and local organizations underscores the strength and resilience of Kentucky’s communities.
