The Federal Reserve has announced the formation of five task forces to evaluate and recommend changes to its operations. The task forces will be led by a mix of public officials and business leaders, including venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, economist Raj Chetty, and former Bank of England governor Mervyn King.
Task Force Focus Areas
The task forces will focus on various areas, including the impact of artificial intelligence on productivity and jobs, the evaluation of data sources used by the Fed, and the examination of the Fed’s balance sheet. One task force will be co-led by Asha Sharma, an executive vice president at Microsoft, and Charles Jones, an economist at Stanford, to oversee the impact of artificial intelligence and other new technologies.
Another task force, co-led by Chetty and Doug McMillon, the former president and CEO of Walmart, will evaluate the data sources used by the Fed. A third task force, co-led by Raghuram Rajan, a former leader of the Reserve Bank of India, and Karen Dynan, a Harvard economist and former Treasury official, will examine the Fed’s balance sheet.
