FC Dallas Defender Joins Swedish National Team for 2026 World Cup

FC Dallas defender Herman Johansson has been selected to represent Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This selection is a significant milestone for FC Dallas, as Johansson joins teammates Petar Musa and Don Deedson Louicius, marking the first time the club has had three active players in the World Cup.

Sweden’s World Cup Journey

Sweden, drawn into Group F, will kick off their World Cup campaign against Tunisia on June 14 at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico. They will then face the Netherlands on June 20 at Houston Stadium, followed by a match against Japan on June 25 at Dallas Stadium in Arlington. Prior to the tournament, Sweden will play preparation matches against Norway and Greece.

As part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Team Base Camp program, Sweden will train at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Texas. This facility will serve as their primary training and operational headquarters throughout the tournament. The Swedish team, managed by Graham Potter, includes several notable players from the English Premier League.

Local Impact and Community Engagement

Frisco is gearing up for the influx of international visitors, with plans to livestream over 90% of the tournament’s matches at Simpson Plaza in front of Frisco City Hall. These watch parties will be free, with Frisco residents receiving priority access. The city anticipates up to 2,000 attendees per event.

Meanwhile, Toyota Stadium in Frisco is undergoing renovations to increase seating capacity and add a roof, expected to be completed by 2028. The World Cup begins on June 11, and FC Dallas, along with the rest of the MLS, will pause for the duration of the tournament.

Herman Johansson, who joined FC Dallas in the 2026 offseason, has already made a significant impact with 14 appearances and two assists. His international experience includes a senior debut for Sweden in 2025 and participation in Sweden’s successful qualification campaign for the World Cup.
