The FBI has announced the successful completion of Operation New Dawn, a 60-day operation in Chicago that resulted in the arrest of 305 suspects and the recovery of 24 missing children. The operation, which began on May 1, was a collaborative effort between 11 different federal agencies, including the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Operation Details
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the operation was a massive, whole-of-government approach to cracking down on violent crimes and crimes against children in Chicago. The operation targeted individuals and criminal networks involved in robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, child exploitation, and other crimes.
The agencies involved in the operation worked together to execute 305 arrests and charge 179 criminal defendants in federal court. The operation also resulted in the recovery of 24 children, many of whom had been reported kidnapped or missing.
Law Enforcement Response
U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros praised the operation, saying it represented a new era of law enforcement in America. "It is my view that to combat violence, federal law enforcement must move at the speed of violence," Boutros said. "The remarkable success of Operation New Dawn resoundingly proves that point."
The ATF’s Special Agent in Charge in Chicago, Christopher Amon, also commended the operation, saying it demonstrated the power of coordinated law enforcement efforts to address violent crime and drug trafficking.
