A dying father’s final wish came true when Oklahoma hospital workers brought his daughter’s wedding to him. Members of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center care staff helped a father hospitalized with a complex pulmonary illness fulfill his final wish to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.
A Dream Come True
Because of his illness, the father was not able to attend the wedding. The care staff acted quickly, turning the hospital chapel into a wedding venue and the outdoor healing garden into a reception space. The father, while surrounded by his family, friends, and caregivers, was able to walk his daughter, Shana Bunce, down the aisle and be by her side during her big day.
He died a few weeks later, according to OU Health officials. “More than just a wedding, this story offers a reminder that health care is about more than treating illness; it’s about caring for people and the moments that matter most,” OU Health officials said in a news release.
