An Oklahoma father is speaking out after the accidental shooting death of his 12-year-old son, Tyler Taffe, who was visiting his mother’s Edmond home in September 2024. The father, John Taffe, is demanding justice ahead of the court appearances for Tyler’s mother and brother.
Accidental Shooting Death
According to investigators, the shooting was accidental. However, John Taffe believes there is more to the story. “He was scared of weapons and fireworks. He was a timid kid. He didn’t do that, and the bullet went through his hand and through his neck. So, that just shows that he didn’t shoot himself,” John said.
Tyler’s mother and then-18-year-old brother each face one count of child neglect. Their plea and sentencing hearings are scheduled for July 1 at 1:30 p.m. John is calling for accountability, not only for Tyler but for other children as well. “We need to set a standard because a lot of kids are dying. We need to protect our babies,” John said.
Millwood, the school Tyler attended, has started a youth support group in his honor following his death. John wants people to remember Tyler for who he was. “Tyler was loving, man. He was a funny kid. He loved to joke a lot. He loved to help people,” John said.
