The Farmington Valley is thriving as people look to cool off on the river. On a hot holiday weekend, many are going down the river to escape the heat.
Farmington River Tubing
“The best way to cool off,” said Avery Beadle of Bridgeport. “Too hot not to,” said Clay Cowee. The cold water is just so refreshing, another visitor said. Farmington River Tubing is a tradition in central Connecticut.
As long as I can remember swimming, going down the rapids, Cowee said. The New Hartford staple is right off Route 44, and it takes a little over two hours to get down the river. It’s a journey that tubers say is hard not to enjoy.
Collinsville Canoe and Kayak
People are also coming near and far to Collinsville Canoe and Kayak to enjoy the river. “It’s a fun thing to do outdoors, get some fresh air, keep moving on the water,” said Maureen Cappetto. “Super peaceful, it’s the most peaceful thing ever,” said Mark Whitney of Beacon Falls.
Collinsville Canoe and Kayaks is packing this part of the river with all sorts of floaters. Friday, there were dozens of holiday weekend workers making the experience smooth sailing for customers. “Exercise, fresh air, we love it,” Cappetto said.
