Families Celebrate Labor Day on the Jersey Shore as Summer Draws to a Close

Sea Isle City, N.J. – As Labor Day weekend arrives, families from across the Mid‑Atlantic gathered along the Jersey Shore to savor the final moments of summer. The beach and boardwalk were alive with laughter, games and the familiar scent of salty air, marking a cherished seasonal tradition for many.

Beach families relish sunshine after rain

Reporter Sharifa Jackson spoke with several visitors who set up camp right on the shoreline. James Devine, a resident of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, described the weather shift: “It was pouring earlier, but as we came closer, the clouds started moving away. Then it just turned into sunshine.” Devine’s family said this would be their last beach trip of the season, a sentiment echoed by many.

Kelly Lubiejewski of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, highlighted the appeal of the long weekend: “We love coming down for Labor Day; it’s good to have a long weekend and not have to get to work on Monday.” Others, like Emmanuel Macareno from Dover, Delaware, simply praised the day: “Beautiful beach, beautiful day today with the family.”

Four‑decade tradition continues

The Jones family shared a four‑decade tradition of heading to the shore. Montel Jones, originally from North Philadelphia, said, “It’s just family tradition; Atlantic City has been in my family for years.” The boardwalk buzzed with children and adults alike, enjoying rides, games and classic boardwalk fare.

First‑time Labor Day visitor Chrysanne George of Paramus, New Jersey, expressed her delight: “I’ve never been down here during Labor Day weekend before. I like waking up and walking down the boardwalk, listening to the seagulls. We’re about to play some games.” She added, “I’m a big summer person. I am going to miss it a lot, but I know I will always be back next year.”

Community spirit shines

Beyond the sand, local businesses along the Atlantic City boardwalk reported a surge in foot traffic, with vendors noting that families often combine beach time with boardwalk entertainment. The atmosphere was described as “picture‑perfect,” with clear skies and gentle breezes encouraging both relaxation and activity.

While the season officially ends on Tuesday, September 22, the shared experiences of these families underscore the enduring appeal of the Jersey Shore as a place for multi‑generational bonding, recreation and a brief respite from daily responsibilities.

Looking ahead

Organizers and local officials hope that the strong turnout this weekend signals continued support for the shore’s tourism economy. They encourage visitors to plan early for next summer, as the region prepares for another season of beachside fun, boardwalk attractions and family traditions.
