Faith and Service in a Season of Waiting: A Personal Journey

In September 2024, a young woman from Miami University faced an unexpected turn in her life. Just months before her graduation with dual degrees in Journalism and Public Health, she was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. This diagnosis marked the beginning of a challenging yet transformative journey, deeply rooted in her faith and service to others.

Embracing Faith Amidst Health Challenges

At the age of 22, she was placed on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) kidney transplant waitlist in March 2025. Instead of embarking on a traditional career path, she entered a season characterized by physical limitations and uncertainty. However, she found solace and strength in her Catholic faith, viewing this period as an opportunity for spiritual growth and deeper union with Christ.

Living with chronic kidney disease has reshaped her daily life. Her energy levels fluctuate, and her health requires careful management. Despite these challenges, she has embraced this slower season as formative rather than empty. Through her experiences, she has learned that suffering is not merely an obstacle but an invitation to trust in God’s purpose.

Service and Community Engagement

Despite her health challenges, she has remained actively engaged in her community. She volunteers at a children’s hospital, providing medical resources to families of sick infants. At her local Catholic parish, she serves as an after-care counselor for elementary school students and participates in the choir for Sunday Mass. Additionally, she supports mothers through a local pregnancy center and assists families facing financial hardship at a community care center. Her part-time remote work with a nonprofit organization promoting electric vehicle mobility further reflects her commitment to service.

Investing in the Future

While awaiting a kidney transplant, she has also invested in her future. In January 2026, she completed a public speaking and motivational speaker certification course through the University of Washington. Now a certified motivational speaker and Catholic writer with Journeys Revealed, she uses her voice to inspire others facing unexpected trials. Her weekly blog newsletter, “Though the Fig Tree,” reflects on trusting God in uncertainty, emphasizing gratitude and praise even in difficult times.

Her personal growth as a devoted Catholic has been a cornerstone of her journey. The sacraments have become anchors, offering healing, reverence, and strength. Through Confession, the Eucharist, and Eucharistic Adoration, she has found deep intimacy with Christ, learning that waiting is not wasted when united with Him.

A Message of Hope and Gratitude

As she continues to wait for the life-changing call for a kidney transplant, she remains committed to building a future rooted in faith, service, and hope. Her journey is a testament to choosing gratitude and trusting in God’s plan, knowing that He works all things together for good. Her story encourages others to find strength and purpose in their own seasons of waiting and uncertainty.
