Fairview is under a boil water advisory after a possible trace of E. coli was found in a recent water sample. The City of Fairview has advised residents to bring all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or preparing infant formula to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it.
According to the city, the sample was taken at the water well before the water was chlorinated, and more samples were collected for testing. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is overseeing the issue, and residents will be notified when the public water supply is safe for human consumption and the mandatory boil order for Fairview PWS is lifted.
The city has made bottled water available for pickup at the City Shop on South Main. City Manager Robert Laverty posted a letter on social media advising residents to take precautions and apologizing for the inconvenience.
