Fairfield, Calif. – The Fairfield Police Department announced Tuesday that investigators believe foul play is involved in the disappearance of 36‑year‑old Chantel Brooks. Brooks was last seen on the night of July 17 as she walked to her vehicle in the 300 block of East Travis Boulevard, a CVS parking lot in Fairfield.
Details of the last known sighting
According to police, Brooks had finished a night shift at a hotel on the 700 block of Eddy Street in San Francisco and drove to Fairfield to begin her morning commute. At approximately 1:45 a.m., she was observed approaching a black 2021 Infiniti QX50 SUV parked in the CVS lot. She was wearing a brown, multi‑colored brimmed hat, a red zip‑up sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and brown furry boots.
Shortly after she entered her vehicle, the car was captured by a license‑plate‑reading camera (known as a Flock camera) in Oakland, California. The vehicle has not been located since that detection.
Police response and resources
Lieutenant Kelly Rombach, spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department, said the department is “actively investigating” and has coordinated with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office. Dozens of search warrants have been executed, and multiple ground searches involving search‑and‑rescue teams have been conducted. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services has provided additional resources, including extensive aerial drone grid searches.
“Our investigation will remain active as we continue working to find Chantel and determine what happened to her. We remain committed to providing answers to her family and our community,” Rombach added.
Call for public assistance
Fairfield police have asked anyone with information about Brooks’ whereabouts or the location of her vehicle to contact the department at 707‑428‑7300, the Investigations Division tip line at 707‑428‑7600, or email case26‑[email protected].
Brooks is described as a Black woman, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. No further details about the circumstances of her disappearance have been released, and police declined to elaborate on why they believe foul play is involved.
Community impact
The case has drawn concern from local residents and community leaders, who emphasize the importance of safety and swift investigative action. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities stress that they are utilizing every tool at their disposal to locate Brooks and bring clarity to her family.
