FAA Implements Drone Restrictions for Spokane FIFA Events

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has updated its airspace regulations in Spokane, Washington, in preparation for the FIFA events this summer. The Spokane Police Department (SPD) announced these changes on Friday, emphasizing the importance of community safety during this exciting period.

Temporary Flight Restriction

A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) has been established, covering Gonzaga University and the surrounding areas. This restriction will be in effect 24/7 from June 1 through July 20. The SPD, in collaboration with the FAA, will be operating drones within this restricted airspace to ensure the safety of both the community and Team Egypt, one of the participating teams.

In addition to drone operations, the SPD will utilize drone detection equipment to monitor unauthorized drone activity. Individuals operating drones in the restricted airspace without proper authorization may face civil and/or criminal penalties at the local or federal level.

Ensuring a Safe Environment

The Spokane Police Department is committed to providing a secure environment for players, fans, residents, and visitors. Through proactive planning and coordination, the SPD aims to create a setting where everyone can enjoy the festivities safely. The department’s efforts include a strong presence at key venues and gathering spaces, ensuring that the community can celebrate and connect without concerns for safety.

For those seeking more information or guidance regarding the TFR, residents are encouraged to review the FAA’s active TFR map available online. This resource provides detailed information on the restricted areas and helps ensure compliance with the new regulations.
