Explosion in Granville, Vermont kills 2 and injures 3

Granville, a tight‑knit community of roughly 300 residents in Addison County, was shaken Saturday night when a house detonated around 7:45 p.m. Vermont State Police confirmed that a man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman was transported to Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, where she later died.

Three additional adults were taken to local hospitals. Two suffered minor injuries, and the third remains in critical condition. The identities of those involved have been withheld pending notification of family members, a standard practice in ongoing investigations.

Emergency response and investigation

Multiple agencies converged on the scene, including the Vermont State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the Field Force Division, and the Victim Services Unit. The Granville Volunteer Fire Department and the Division of Fire Safety also provided critical assistance.

According to the state police, preliminary findings do not indicate that the blast was suspicious. Investigators will remain on site throughout Sunday to gather additional evidence and determine the cause of the explosion.

Impact on the community

For a town the size of Granville, any tragedy reverberates deeply. Neighbors gathered to offer prayers and support, reflecting the town’s strong Christian faith and commitment to one another. Local churches have already opened their doors for families affected by the loss, underscoring the importance of faith‑based community care in times of crisis.

Mayor John Miller, who leads the town’s modest government, expressed his sorrow and pledged full cooperation with state investigators. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims,” he said. “We will do everything we can to support them and ensure the safety of our residents.”

What’s next?

State officials have not ruled out any possibilities, but the lack of suspicious indicators suggests the incident may have been accidental. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and to respect the ongoing investigation.

As the community mourns, local leaders encourage citizens to lean on one another, uphold family values, and trust in the diligent work of law‑enforcement agencies tasked with uncovering the truth.
