The Sheridan Community Land Trust (SCLT) is offering a unique opportunity for residents to connect with nature through a guided plant walk at the Big Goose Natural Area. This Discovery Session, scheduled for May 27, invites community members to explore the rich biodiversity of the area under the guidance of botanist Bob Giurgevich.

Discover Local Plant Life

Participants, affectionately termed ‘Flower Finders’ and ‘Plant Peepers,’ will embark on a morning journey through the natural area, learning to identify a variety of local flowers, shrubs, trees, and other native plants. Bob Giurgevich will share his expertise and stories about the species that thrive in this local habitat, offering insights into the ecological significance of each plant.

The event will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area, located at 14 Lane Ln. in Sheridan. This session is designed to accommodate plant enthusiasts of all experience levels, making it an inclusive event for the community.

Preparation and Safety

Attendees are advised to wear comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, and to bring essentials such as water, sun protection, and bug spray. The walk will cover uneven terrain and may involve some off-trail exploration. Participants should be aware of the presence of ticks, mosquitoes, and rattlesnakes in the area. For safety reasons, pets are not allowed during the event.
