A former sheriff in Letcher County, Kentucky, has been denied bail after being accused of killing District Judge Kevin Mullins in September 2024. The shooting was captured by a camera inside Mullins’ chambers.

Trial to be Moved

The trial will be moved out of Letcher County due to intense publicity and community bias. According to witness testimony, many community members have strong opinions, and there’s a sort of ‘Team Mickey Stines’ or ‘Team Judge Mullins’ mentality.

The order does not specify where the trial will be moved to, but both parties will have about two weeks to file their preferences. The prosecution will also be allowed to conduct a mental evaluation of the defendant.
